Confused Perceptions and Wrong Intuitions

I talk about intuition or your inner knowing a lot on this blog, and it's because it's the clearest and truest direction you have from your divine connection. Even when something I or another spiritual teacher says rings truth, what is it that is doing the ringing? That ringing is within you. The resonance is within you.

So much of what gets said by people has no resonance for us. It just passes by like the wind. A much smaller portion of the stuff people say can trigger and upset us, but this is because we've staked out a claim to something that isn't real. When we build an idea, relationship, or life on top of illusion, we have no real foundation. We can spend our whole lives trying to defend things and ideas like who we think we are. In such cases, anything that remotely questions us feels like an attack. This is how our perceptions can get so confused. We're caught up in defending illusions, and the ego will use anything it can--including intuitive knowing--as part of the defense.

Yet even here that can  be resonance. While the personal attack or unsettling situation is probably not coming from a clean space of love, there is much that the world naturally does to show us whether we are founded on the truth or on falsehood. If we're on falsehood, a part of us knows and will resonate while we're being triggered and upset by the event. At which point, everything is particularly messy.

So what to do? Go inwards.

Webinar: Releasing Judgment

My students have been talking about issues with self-judgment a lot lately, so I felt like creating this webinar around the topic of judgment in general. It's very easy for people to get lost in a sea of judgments about themselves and other people. But what is really going on here? What is the unconscious ego trying to do through all these judgments? What do we get from these self-inflicted wounds? How do we learn to more clearly see ourselves and others without judgment while still being able to interpret life and take effective action?

These are a few of the questions I hope to unmask with you around judgment.

Spiritual Awakening Crash and Burn

spiritual darkness, spiritual confusion, spiritually lost,
Everybody loves the bliss state. It's the state of awareness and feeling that is constantly confused as being the spiritual state that you're supposed to get. But the awakened awareness embraces all states of awareness. Now, life certainly feels a lot better when we aren't at war with ourselves, but as many of us stabilize and relax into awakened awareness, it feels more like a deep and abiding sense of peace and love that simply is. It's no big deal.

When the bliss state first comes, it feels like a big deal. It can feel that way because--depending on what you've experienced with love--it is one of the first moments to provide an incredible depth of love, clarity, and peace that you've ever experienced. Just imagine the first time you tried a really yummy food and multiply that feeling by about a billion. But as we integrate into love, clarity, and peace, that sense of high dissipates because we aren't living in quite so low a place of apathy, anger, hatred, despair, guilt, shame, and perpetual fear. Take that bottom out, and the top level isn't quite so top anymore. It simply is what is.

But many of you won't try to address these core pains. You may simply try to reach higher and higher and get upset when that bliss state keeps disappearing. You are headed for probably more than a few hard crashes.

Webinar: Spiritual Healing and Self Transformation

spiritual healing, spirituality, spiritual awakening, ocean, nature photo
Too often people think of healing as something that arises when something is broken. Rather as we continue on our spiritual paths, we simply accept that some things need mending and even breaking open as part of our natural spiritual growth. With that said, there are more than a few things that are seriously out-of-whack and unhealthy in many people, which is why just about anyone on the spiritual path will do more than a little spiritual healing. That healing becomes part of rebuilding ourselves and allowing the emergence of our self transformation. In truth, we are realigning to the ways we always wanted to grow and live in life but had otherwise forgotten or never had a chance to realize because of all the pain and unhealthy core beliefs that kept us confined.

I'm sure that many of you will have questions about spiritual healing and your own healing, so feel free to register below and join me in this free webinar.

Connecting to People You Don't Like

In a blog post I wrote a long time ago (in 2010 actually--can you believe how long I've been writing this blog now?), I talked about "Falling in Love With the World." I also had a header that said you don't have to fall in love with your enemies...yet. Well, now you do, but not exactly. Because who is the one judging and categorizing everything into friends, allies, enemies, and suspicious suspects? It's the ego. And as many of you have discovered in your journeys inward, the ego's logic is highly flawed and outright wrong in many aspects. As such, you may find that so many of the people you thought you didn't like, you actually do. You may also find out that may of the people you thought you liked, you don't actually like at all.

You may wonder how this can happen, but I can only say that you need to do your self-work to discover these truths for yourself. For the purpose of this blog though, I'm going to talk about making it a practice to connect to people you don't like and how we learn to do so not by grinding our teeth and tolerating, but by stepping back from the space that is judging.

Another View of the Ego

How to Find Answers on this Spirituality Blog

It's amazing to say that there are over 700 blog posts on this spirituality blog. But with all of that wonderful spirituality writing, so much of it can be easily missed or overlooked. In this blog post, I'm offering some tips on how to find stuff on this blog so that you can get your spiritual questions answered and find the support you want.

The spiritual tips that follow offer some of the least used items that may be helpful for you. I know these are least used because I did a survey on whether people were finding what they were searching for. The good news is that most of you do seem able to find what you need, but let's see if we can't make this even easier.

Oakland Spirituality Talk: Creating Spiritual Relationships

spiritual path, spiritual journey, spiritual awakening, spiritual event
My next free, local talk is coming up this May, and it will be about "Creating and Deepening Spiritual Relationships" on May 18th.

So many people are starved for real connection. The depth of genuine connection in my sessions is one of the reasons that many people enjoy having me as a spiritual teacher, but I am not an army of one. Thus, the inspiration for this talk is to help you develop and spread these abilities so you can create and enhance genuine spiritual relationships. Whether it's a long-time friend, a new friend, or a lover, you can offer a lot to them by how you listen and hold space.

If you are already good at this, the next step in deepening these abilities includes staying open in difficult moments or when you disagree with something. As such, I'll go into this as well for those of you who are already adept at creating spiritual friendships. We can always improve in these areas of connection.

Kundalini Awakening and Kundalini Experiences

kundalini awakening, spiritual awakening, kundalini energy, nature photo
One of the terms I don’t use too much is “Kundalini awakening.” It tends to be too specific for me, and there’s a strong attachment to it from different spiritual communities. As such, I choose not to refer to it much. To me, awakening is awakening. The way the energy moves up or down the spine or all around is kind of immaterial to how we all have to choose to embrace the shift. So, I don’t find a need to make as granular a distinction as such to say something is a “Kundalini awakening” or another type of awakening.

To me specificity needs to be inherently useful. Otherwise, it’s just the ego mind creating new distinctions to make itself feel special. It’s why I also don’t use the term ascension, which has strong ties and a specific meaning with many in the new age community. Awakening doesn't make us care more about such distinctions; it usually takes us in the direction of caring much less.

But if you landed on this blog today, you probably have been wondering what a Kundalini awakening is, or if you've had a Kundalini awakening or another similar experience, you may be wondering what in the world is going on. So, I’ll chat a little bit about that to help clarify things and put you at ease in the shift.

If after reading this post  you still wonder if you are having an awakening, please read this spiritual awakening blog post:
